Ah, good old writing. Some people's best friend, some people's most hated enemy. Whether you find yourself looking like the guy in the picture, or consider yourself a regular J.K. Rowling, here are 5 tips to help you level up and feel more confident in your writing.

#1: Write EVERYDAY!

Yup, you heard me. WRITE EVERYDAY. Whether you write a 500 page biography of yourself, or write "this is stupid" over and over again, it doesn't matter. Set a limit to ensure you don't get side-tracked or die of boredom (jk 😋).

#2: Get to know what you are writing about.

Even if you are writing a fiction book report, it is imperative that you research the time period and place the book takes place in. This will definitely help you understand the book much better, and (if you include it in your hypothetical book report) give you a better grade.

#3: Make some mistakes

Don't think that your writing has to be perfect. All writers make mistakes at first. And remember: mistakes are okay. The best thing to do is to learn from it. By recognizing your mistakes, you understand what is wrong with your writing and how to fix it.

#4: Show, don't tell

Over-describing setting, characters, or items completely overloads the reader with a huge image of what you are portraying. It's better to let the reader to picture what you mean rather than tell them. “Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.” – Anton Chekhov.

#5: Write what you would enjoy reading

Chances are, if you enjoy reading something, other people will too. If you write what other people want to read, you won't have many quality ideas.

Hey, what are you waiting for? Go write something! Happy reading (or writing in this case)!
